What’s allowed here
This is a noticeboard for New London, Groton and Mystic. Anyone can read it, forever, without an account. Posting needs a free account so the board stays real, and you have to be 18 or older.
What belongs here
- Questions and recommendations about the three towns.
- Things you are selling, giving away, looking for, or have lost or found.
- Real local jobs.
- Events go on the calendar instead, at Post your event. No account needed for that, and they show up here too.
What does not
- Weapons, ammunition, drugs, medication or alcohol sales.
- Adult content of any kind.
- Anything aimed at or involving a child unsafely.
- Harassment, hate, or naming and shaming a neighbour.
- Scams, chain posts, and anything you are pasting into ten other towns as well.
- Business promotion outside jobs and events. Paid placement is a separate thing, it is labelled, and it is capped.
How posts are checked
Every post and reply goes through an automatic check first. Most go straight up. If the check is unsure, the post is held and only you can see it while it waits, and you are told which of the two is happening. If it is held for something serious, a person looks at it and emails you.
A held post never disappears on you. It stays visible to you, at its own address, with a band on it saying so.
There are no private messages
On purpose. Private messages are where scams and harassment go to hide, and nobody can moderate what nobody can see. People reply on your post, in the open. Think about that before you put a phone number or a street address in one.
Reporting something
Every post and every reply has a Report button and you do not need an account to use it. We will not tell you what we decided, and we will never tell the other person who reported them.
Your own posts
You can edit or delete anything you wrote, at any time. Things for sale come down after 30 days unless you renew them, and you can mark something sold or found without taking it down: it greys out and stays readable, which is how anyone can tell the board actually works.
