This weekend, Jul 31 – Aug 2

Mystic draws people from all over, and there's almost always something on. Between the village, the river and the shops, a weekend here fills up fast. Here's what's happening.

Where things happen in Mystic

Mystic packs a lot into a small village, and most of it sits within reach of the drawbridge in the center of downtown. The Mystic River Bascule Bridge is the landmark everyone meets at, with the shops, restaurants and river right there. The Mystic Seaport Museum runs events and demonstrations along the water at the north end of the village, and Mystic Aquarium is a few minutes away over the Groton line. Olde Mistick Village is the open-air cluster of shops and seasonal events just off the highway. For something quieter, the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center has trails and family programs, and come fall, B.F. Clyde's Cider Mill up in Old Mystic is the one people drive out for.

Mystic events by category

Families and food carry most weekends in Mystic, between the Seaport, the aquarium and a downtown full of places to eat. Arts and culture run strong too, with galleries in the village and events at the Seaport through the season. Markets and fairs turn up often, especially in summer and fall, and there's enough outdoors around the river and the nature center to fill a morning. The village gets busy on a nice weekend, so use the filters to zero in on what's actually on.

Planning your visit

Mystic fills up fast on a good weekend, so come earlier in the day if you can, especially in summer and over the fall weekends. Parking in the village is tight, but there are lots within a short walk of the bridge, and once you're parked most of downtown is easy on foot. The Seaport and the aquarium both charge admission, while the village and the waterfront are free to wander. New events post all week, so check back Friday before you plan the weekend.
